The Seventh Annual Tom Tom Founders Festival is a week-long celebration of innovators, visionaries, and artists who are shaping small cities. The Festival occurs at dozens of venues throughout downtown Charlottesville.

Beginning in 2004, Mr. Weithman has established and grown CIT GAP Funds, a family of early stage venture funds focused on making equity investments in Virginia’s most promising tech, life science and clean tech companies. A “double-bottom-line” fund, CIT GAP Funds invests in anticipation of both superior financial return and economic development benefit for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since inception, CIT GAP Funds has placed more than 200 early stage investments, establishing itself as a regional venture leader in cybersecurity, data analytics and deep tech and earning regional and national recognition for investment leadership by Entrepreneur Magazine, CBInsights, Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) and the State Science and Technology Institute (SSTI).

Since 2013, Mr. Weithman has served as founder, President and Chief Investment Officer of the MACH37 accelerator. An outgrowth of the CIT GAP Funds cybersecurity portfolio MACH37 provides seed capital and hands-on mentoring to high-growth, globally sourced cybersecurity start-ups. Through CIT GAP Funds and the MACH37 Seed Fund, Weithman has directed investment in more than 75 early stage cybersecurity companies establishing CIT as a premiere provider of early stage capital in the sector.

In 2018, Weithman formed the Virginia Founders Fund. Capitalized by returns from CIT’s flagship CIT GAP Funds investment program, the Virginia Founders Fund addresses the early capital formation needs of entrepreneurs identifying with populations underserved by traditional risk capital sources.
Weithman has held previous roles at IBM and Hughes Electronics . Mr. Weithman's educational background includes a BA from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA from Michigan State University and an MPA from Harvard University. Mr. Weithman’s current and past non-profit affiliations encompass board positions with the Hampton Roads Technology Incubator, the Virginia Tech Intellectual Property Foundation, the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Alzheimer’s Association, National Capital Area Chapter.

Weithman is a frequent speaker and commentator on the subjects of early stage venture investment, cybersecurity, technology commercialization and technology-driven economic development.
