The Seventh Annual Tom Tom Founders Festival is a week-long celebration of innovators, visionaries, and artists who are shaping small cities. The Festival occurs at dozens of venues throughout downtown Charlottesville.

Community Workshop: How to Bake Sprouted Grain Bread

Attendees will be led through the process of baking two different styles of sprouted bread. The first demo is for a sprouted grain buckwheat and millet sourdough, and then a sprouted grain flour based bread. Finished loaves available for sample. Sidney will explain how to soak and sprout grains and why it is important and demonstrate how to make a batter based sourdough and a flour based bread and what the difference is. Folks will learn how to mill flour, and to make a basic seed mylk.

Attendees will discuss the history of brewing with fruit and other atypical ingredients, how fruit influences different styles of beer, and how New Belgium utilizes fruit and spice ingredients to tailor to the American craft consumer. The workshop aims to educate participants and alleviate misconceptions surrounding the stigma of fruited beers. Furthermore, customers will be enlightened regarding the merits of craft beer while continuing to build interest in an industry that is increasingly integral to the economy of Central Virginia and Charlottesville in particular. *Note: Participants must be 21 years of age or older. Please bring identification.

Iron Chef Competition

The Farmer’s Market Iron Chef Competition is a mouth-watering challenge that asks contestants to come up with a dish that is 100 percent locally sourced. Six contestants will have 30 minutes to tour the market and purchase ingredients of their choice; then take those ingredients and create a special brunch dish, in less than 30 minutes, presented before three judges.
