Community Workshop: Listening Like You Mean It
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Festival Pass - Free - Links to Festival App.
Listening poorly has become second nature. With so much noise, we've become numb. Between email, text, Slack, and the latest social media craze, we've forgotten - or never learned - how to really listen. We are trained to listen to the content or for the problem that needs to be fixed rather than to the person speaking. We listen for information and then when we think we've got it, we stop listening. Or we listen just enough so we can simultaneously formulate the response we want to make. But the other person is attempting to connect with us, not just exchange data. But true listening is how we develop deeper understanding and connection. It's how we open conversation for a more creative path. Listening is at the heart of how we relate to our colleagues, our friends and family, and our community. In this workshop, participants will see the power of listening globally. We'll build skills to help participants learn to listen to everything observable by sense: what your hear, see, smell, feel, and intuit. They will understand how curiosity and listening with purpose can transform their relationships and their leadership.

The Founders Who Aren't: Inclusion in Entrepreneurship
Limited Capacity seats available
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Summit Badge - Advance Badge.
Eighty-nine percent of venture capital partners are male; 85% of those men are white. Unsurprisingly then, only 2.2% of venture capital went to startups run by women in 2017, and just 1% to black entrepreneurs. Companies run by black female founders account for just 0.2% percent of all deals.

Beyond lamenting these statistics, what can each of us do to level the playing field and unlock the enormous potential of overlooked innovators? This session is a safe, candid opportunity to discuss practical strategies for overcoming bias and founding a more equitable future.

Limited Capacity filling up

We have been spoon-fed the notion that creativity is the province of genius — of those favored, brilliant few whose moments of insight arrive in unpredictable flashes of divine inspiration. And if we are not a genius, we might as well pack it in and give up. Either we have that gift, or we don’t. But recent research has shown that there is a predictable science behind achieving commercial success in any creative endeavor, from writing a popular novel to starting up a successful company to creating an effective marketing campaign. Big data entrepreneur Allen Gannett overturns the mythology around creative genius, and reveals the science and secrets behind achieving breakout commercial success in any field.
